Getting out and connecting

Getting out in the community

A support worker comes with you to activities you choose, so you can enjoy them safely and build your confidence and friendships.

This may suit you if…

  • You'd like to get out more and meet people
  • You want support to try something new
  • You need someone with you to take part safely

What is getting out in the community?

Getting out in the community means support to do the things you enjoy outside your home: hobbies, sport, classes, volunteering, events, or simply catching up with friends.

A support worker comes with you, helps you get there and take part safely, and supports you to build friendships and confidence. Over time, many people need less support as they become more comfortable.

You choose the activities. If you're not sure what you'd like to do, we'll help you explore options in your local area.

What it could look like

Mia and her support worker go to a weekly art class and then have lunch at a café. Over time Mia has made friends in the class and now chats with them on her own.
