Learning life skills

This is about building your skills so you can do more for yourself. Your support worker teaches and practises skills with you, step by step, at your own pace, until you feel confident.

This may suit you if…

  • You want to become more independent
  • You're getting ready to move out of home
  • You'd like to learn a skill rather than have someone do it for you

What is learning life skills?

Learning life skills is about building your independence. Instead of doing things for you, your support worker teaches and practises skills with you, step by step, until you feel confident doing them yourself.

We start with your goals, such as moving out of home, managing your own money or catching the bus on your own, and break them into small, achievable steps. We celebrate progress and adjust as you go.

This support is funded from the Capacity Building part of your NDIS plan, because the aim is to build your skills over time.

What it could look like

Jordan wants to move into his own place next year. Each week he and his support worker practise cooking a new meal, and they're working on catching the bus to TAFE on his own.

  • Budgeting and managing your money
