Supported Independent Living (SIL)
SIL is help with daily tasks for people who live in a shared home (usually with 2 to 4 other people) or on their own, and who need a high level of support. Our team supports you in your home so you can live as independently as possible.
This may suit you if…
- You need support for much of the day, or overnight
- You want to move out of the family home
- You'd like to live with other people your age
What is Supported Independent Living (SIL)?
Supported Independent Living (SIL) is help with daily tasks for people who need a high level of support at home. It's usually provided in a shared home, where a few people live together and share support, but it can also be provided if you live on your own.
SIL covers the support, not the house itself. Support workers help with things like personal care, cooking, cleaning, medication and getting out in the community, and can be there overnight or around the clock, depending on your needs.
Everyone in the home has their own room and makes their own choices. We work with each person on their goals, so SIL is about building independence, not just being looked after.
What it could look like
A few young adults share a home. Support workers are there around the clock to help with routines, cooking and outings, while each person has their own room and makes their own choices.
Good to know: SIL needs to be funded in your NDIS plan. If it isn't, we can talk to you or your support coordinator about what's needed to ask for it.
