Housing and equipment
Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA)
SDA is the home itself: purpose-built or modified housing for people with extreme functional impairment or very high support needs. It's different from SIL, which is the support you receive in the home. Many people have both.
This may suit you if…
- You have very high support needs
- Your current home can't be made safe for you
What is Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA)?
Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) is housing that's been specially designed or built for people with extreme functional impairment or very high support needs.
SDA homes can include features like wider doorways, ceiling hoists, accessible bathrooms, emergency power and assistive technology. SDA funding pays for the home itself, not the support you get in it.
Most people who live in SDA also have support, such as Supported Independent Living (SIL). We can help you understand how they work together.
Good to know: The NDIA decides who is eligible for SDA, and it must be approved in your NDIS plan.
